Every Insight features a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Similar to an automatic transmission, CVT is an advanced transmission that substitutes the gears found in more traditional transmissions and replaces them with a metal push-belt running between a pair of variable-width pulleys. Combined with the Drive-by-Wire throttle system, the CVT constantly adjusts to provide the most efficient drive ratio possible depending on torque load. Honda's CVT provides better fuel economy and acceleration when compared to a conventional transmission.
Pushing the dash-mounted ECON button modifies various vehicle systems to help minimize the vehicle’s overall energy use—and maximize fuel efficiency.
The Insight's brake lights use light-emitting diodes (LED) for maximum illumination and an unmistakable lighting signature at night.
In addition to their sleek, modern look, the Insight's projector-beam headlights cast a bright, well-defined light for greater visibility.
The Insight features 3-point seat belts at all seating positions, including the rear center seat. Outboard rear seats feature the Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) child-seat mounting system.
The 60/40 split seats add versatility by allowing one or two rear-seat passengers in addition to more cargo options.
Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® for mobile phones—standard on EX—gives drivers the convenience of a hands-free phone system.
The available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with voice recognition and FM Traffic provides information on 10 million points of interest.
The audio system's Speed-Sensitive Volume Control (SVC) automatically raises or lowers the volume to compensate for exterior road noise.
In a moderate to severe rear-end impact, the active front head restraints move up and forward in a fraction of a second, helping reduce the likelihood of neck injury.
The Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure is a Honda-exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash.
VSA can brake individual wheels and/or reduce engine power in the event of oversteer or understeer to help regain the driver's intended path. The system also features a traction control function to help prevent wheelspin during acceleration.
Insight LX and EX models are equipped with a security system with remote entry for added security and convenience.
